How We Give to Gain: Lessons in Mentorship and Connection

Celebrated annually on March 8, International Women’s Day (IWD) is a global movement to recognize the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women—and to call for faster progress toward gender equality. This year’s IWD theme is “Give to Gain.” In this DIVE In blog post, members of Blue Yonder’s Women’s Interest Network (WIN) share what the theme means to them.

Dulce Zazueta, Support Director – Cloud, Mexico: Sharing knowledge and supporting others has always been part of who I am. One meaningful experience was mentoring a colleague as she stepped into a Project Lead role—a position I’d held for some time. What began as simple guidance quickly became a two-way learning journey, and I gained fresh perspectives through her vision and approach.

Seeing her grow into larger, high-impact projects—and recently hearing from her as she shared her latest professional achievement—reminded me that giving time and experience creates lasting connections.

Knowing our shared journey stayed with her—and that she chose to reconnect in a moment of pride and accomplishment—meant everything to me. Being present for someone’s growth, then reconnecting when they’re at their best, is one of the greatest gifts this journey can offer. When we give, we truly gain perspective, growth, and community.

Samantha Levy, Support Director, United States: I love this year’s theme, “Give to Gain,” because it captures something I’ve experienced in my own career: When we show up for each other, we all grow. I’m happy to share a story about what that’s looked like for me.

When a talented associate asked to relocate for a new city and role, I shared my time and network. I coached her through the transition and offered practical advice to make the move less daunting.

Navigating the process with her sharpened my leadership skills and deepened my sense of belonging at Blue Yonder. Her success became a shared victory, expanded my network and reinforced why mentorship matters.

In the years since, we’ve both moved on to new roles and teams. We connect occasionally, and every time, I smile. In those moments, I’m reminded that helping someone navigate change often changes you, too. It was more than a move; it was a reminder of the simple, lasting power we have to lift each other up.

Carla García, Senior Support Manager, Mexico: International Women’s Day is a good moment to reflect on how supporting each other helps us grow.

Recently, I helped a new teammate learn our support tools and processes. We went step by step, and I shared a few tips that helped me when I started.

By helping, I gained confidence and built a stronger connection with my teammate. It also reminded me how important it is to support and encourage each other. Later, I saw that same person helping someone else with the same things we discussed. That moment showed me that even small acts of support can make a big difference.

Marcela Maldonado, Technical Manager, Mexico: Happy International Women’s Day! I’ve experienced the theme “Give to Gain” through my participation in Blue Yonder’s Social Responsibility and Diversity, Inclusion, Value and Equity (DIVE) Committees, helping plan activities for these groups.

Through this work, I have gained friends across the company and built a network that includes leaders from many areas. Together, our committees have made great things happen, helped leave the world a little better than we found it, and shared that passion with more people.

Ingrid Nuñez, Technical Account Advisor, Mexico: I love connecting with people and enjoy sharing what I’ve learned so we can all thrive. Recently, I mentored a peer who joined the TAM group, sharing materials, playbooks and training and letting him shadow me through real, day-to-day customer situations.

Before onboarding ended, I encouraged him to take what worked for me and make it his own. Seeing him excel—handling tough conversations while staying grounded—has been incredibly rewarding. We’ve stayed in touch, and if he has questions, I’m always happy to help or help him find the right answer.

When I hear him speak with calm confidence about a critical customer situation, I’m reminded that what I shared mattered. Giving my time, knowledge and mentorship has helped him grow—and strengthened my own confidence, too.
