Blue Yonder Associates Share Their Favorite Photos for World Photography Day 2025

Held every year on August 19, World Photography Day celebrates the art, craft, science, and history of photography. In honor of the annual celebration, we asked Blue Yonder associates to share some of their favorite photos. From under the sea to landmarks and cityscapes, below is just a small sample of the amazing pictures they shared with us:

Ketan Katdare, Staff Technical Writer, India

Ketan’s images from left to right:
•    The sea, the sand, and the silence – nature’s perfect poetry.
•     The great Mehrangargh fort, where the film The Dark Knight Rises was shot.
•     "I am concentrating". Clicked just in time when the squirrel was trying to concentrate, or not sure what it was.
•     Majesty in marble, serenity in the sky.

Chris Lawrence, Principal Enterprise Architect, U.S.

These images of our three dogs—Mimi, Nala and Max—remind me that while we work hard, it’s ultimately to support and enjoy the things we love most. The second image, created entirely with generative AI, blends my passion for Everton FC with our beloved pets, capturing both creativity and technology in action. Together, they remind me that AI is both a powerful driver of innovation and a thought-provoking source of caution in the world we live in today.

I've been scuba diving since a vacation in 1990 and was hooked. I find it very relaxing, weightless, and peaceful—you cannot get more in tune with nature than you can underwater. It's like visiting another planet where the alien creatures do not fear you. Diving has exposed me to some amazing memories, from tagging sea turtles in Barbados and exploring shipwrecks around the world to diving with hundreds of sharks. I get to see a variety of cute reef-dwelling critters, but the annual shark trip is what gets my heartrate going the most! Enjoying the physical experience is priority, but recently I upgraded my camera gear so I can also catch some good memories to share with my non-diving friends and family. Here are a few of my favorites!

Sneha Purohit, Program Management Director, India

These three photos are of different places I have visited in the last year. I love traveling and gathering memories of the places I visit. “If places could talk…” this is what these photos would say from left to right:

•    Goa says, "Slow down and let the sea wash your worries away. Here, the only schedule is the tide, and the only agenda is enjoying life's simple pleasures."
•    Kolkata says, “I'm a city of contradictions, where a rich history of intellectualism and art coexists with the clamor of everyday life. Come, walk my streets and feel the vibrant pulse of my past and present."
•    Kerela says, "I am God’s own country, where emerald backwaters, spice-scented hills and sun-kissed beaches coexist in perfect harmony."

Brendan Rapose, Solutions Advisor, U.K.

My interest in photography took off (ironically), when we were in lockdown. When suddenly faced with restrictions in movement, I started to pay more attention to the world around me. I enjoy taking photos of nature, animals (tough as they typically don’t sit still!), landmarks, and aircraft, and I’ve even dabbled with moonshots! My tip is photography helps record the moment; take time out to do this and the memories will pay you back and more!

Here are some pictures I find interesting around the themes of “lights, landscapes and birds.”

Rainbow After the Monsoon in Tucson: Arizona summers have grown on us, especially the monsoons that bring dramatic skies and the unforgettable scent of desert rain and creosote. This rainbow, nearly full and visible from our front yard, was one of the most breathtaking we've ever seen.

Horny Toads on Mt. Lemmon: My wife and I absolutely love Horny Toads, but we had never seen one in the wild—until this magical moment atop Mt. Lemmon in Tucson, Arizona. Peaceful and still, it was the first time we ever found one, and it felt like nature had gifted us something truly rare.

John Vrankovich, Distinguished Software Engineer, U.S.

I'm new to photography but I'm loving the learning experience. I have easy access to a few nature preserves, botanical gardens and Washington, D.C., so I have plenty of areas for practice and inspiration. I have no specialty yet! I'm trying everything; flowers, nature, wildlife, macro, and cityscapes (my hometown, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, featured below). I do like the ease of flower photography, indoor and outdoor, and the creative options it brings.
