The coronavirus pandemic created tremendous disruption in global supply chains as companies adjusted to interruptions in manufacturing and shipping, massive shifts in production and distribution, and unpredictable inventories. In the process, health and safety concerns caused a shift in consumer expectations surrounding new ways to receive the goods they sought through a wealth of endpoints, including curbside pickup, same-day delivery, inexpensive shipping and more. People grew increasingly comfortable buying things online—groceries, for example—that they hadn’t before.
