1930 the Depression.
The early 1930's were hard times for America and the World. Dad and a few buddies set out for California in search of work, and a little adventure.
My Grandfather, a railroad brakeman, had gotten Dad work in the rail yard loading and unloading freight and shoveling out cattle cars for a Dollar a day.
Men were thankful for whatever work they could find. Many shared jobs so that their neighbors had something coming in. My Gradfather gave up days to other men who had families to support.
These dapper fellows were in for a 6,000+ mile trip to pick fruit.
